Empowering Women and Youth Entrepreneurship through Yoruba Oral Arts in Southwest Nigeria

About the study: The UNESCO-IFCD-UNIOSUN project, titled "Youth Empowerment, Gender Mainstreaming, and Entrepreneurising Yoruba Oral Arts for Sustainable Development in Southwest Nigeria," focuses on the preservation and promotion of Yoruba cultural heritage. The project aims to train young people, particularly female Yoruba oral artists, to ensure the continuation of these traditions. A key component involves digitization of Yoruba cultural stories and moral tales through various methods like animation, caricatures and cartooning technology. The project encompasses research on Yoruba oral genres, the promotion of sustainable cultural policies, the international mobility of artists and the socio-economic empowerment of budding Yoruba oral artists. The project is funded by UNESCO-IFCD, TOFAC2025 and local cultural stakeholders.

Expected Impact: The UNESCO-UNIOSUN project has the potential to revitalize and preserve Yoruba cultural heritage, empower youth and women, and contribute to sustainable development within the Southwest Nigeria region.
