Trauma Training Series Registration

Training Overview:

Day 1: Introduction to Trauma Informed Care, The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics and The Six Core Strengths of Healthy Development.

“Trauma informed” is more than just a buzz word. Clinicians across the nation are seeking to be trauma informed and are often required to do so. This training increases participants’ awareness of trauma and basic knowledge to create a trauma-sensitive environment. Participants are introduced to the impact trauma has on the brain and how this affects a client’s ability to function. Driven by brain science, you will increase your understanding of trauma, and learn how to promote healthy childhood development, reducing the risk for social, emotional, and behavioral problems. Afterall, health promotion is violence prevention!

Objectives:
  • Learn to recognize and respond to trauma symptoms in a sensitive, empathetic manner.
  • Understand how trauma impacts development across the lifespan, specifically cognitive functioning, and learning.
  • Identify the six core strengths and understand how they build on each other sequentially.
  • Increase understanding of the relational circumstances that promote healthy development and violence prevention.

Day 2: A Deeper Dive into Childhood Trauma: Brain Development and The Impact of Toxic Stress

Brain science is a fast-growing area of focus for those working with individuals who have been exposed to childhood adversity. Understanding the stress response system and circumstances that impact functioning is critical when implementing therapeutic interventions. Participants delve deeper into both brain science and the impact of trauma, learning how state dependent functioning, regulation, and the principals of brain development impact client’s capacity to reach their goals. You will leave with practical tips on ensuring the environment and execution of therapeutic interventions are most advantageous.

Objectives:
  • Understand the principles of brain development.
  • Create an environment that is conducive to healing for those that have experienced trauma.
  • Recognize when the stress response system is sensitized and be able to support increased regulation.
  • Manage the effects that human service work has on self.

This training is followed with three consultation calls to help bridge the content from theory to application.

  1. Regulation- Under most circumstances, we operate with the ability to process and integrate information without much difficulty- our brain is functioning well and we’re able to reflect, plan and problem solve. For many individuals affected by trauma, the slightest stress can quickly cause dysregulation. This 60-minute workshop provides clinicians with sensory based strategies their clients can use in the home and/or at school, improving regulation.
  2. Brain Science- By understanding Child Development, we are better positioned to decrease the risk for on-going social, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive problems while promoting healing. This 60-minute workshop helps clinicians tune into disrupted development that impairs functioning and how to best to meet the child’s therapeutic needs
  3. Weaving Science into Interventions- Today’s families face critical, complex challenges, now more than ever! Trauma plays a daily, direct attack against the well-being of all children and families, that is often beyond our control.  This 60-minute workshop focuses on ways to weave science into interventions.
