Striving for Equity in Immunisation: GAVI’s Equity Work
Since its launch in January 2000 the GAVI Alliance, a public-private global partnership committed to saving children’s lives and protecting people’s health by increasing access to immunisation, has helped to alleviate gaps in coverage and availability of lifesaving vaccines between developing and developed countries.
As part of the implementation of the 2013 GAVI Business Plan, GAVI requested the PATH-hosted Vaccine Implementation Technical Assistance Consortium (VITAC) to work with GAVI stakeholders to raise the profile of ongoing efforts to address equity. Part of this work will lead to the development of an ‘Equity at GAVI’ reference document that will bring together in one place an outline of what the Alliance is doing to address equity in immunization and an overview of key actions that are being undertaken by partners at a country level.
A key component of this project is this stakeholder consultation, which has been designed to gather feedback and input from interested and affected stakeholders at global, national, and community levels on the key drivers of inequities in immunisation, activities/actions happening at the country level to address these issues, and the identification of key considerations and best practices being undertaken and implemented. Feedback gathered through this consultation will inform the development of the project’s reference document. The consultation offers an important opportunity to gather insights into the strategies and actions required for successfully addressing inequities in immunisation.
