New Hampshire Heroes

Heroes don’t appear every day. But in moments that demand courage, quick thinking and selflessness, ordinary people sometimes do extraordinary things.

Each spring, the New Hampshire Union Leader, in partnership with Citizens, honors New Hampshire residents who risked their own lives to save — or attempt to save — another person during the previous year.

We are now accepting nominations for the 2026 New Hampshire Heroes, who will be honored in spring 2027.

New Hampshire Heroes nominee qualifications:

• In the newspaper’s judgment, nominee must have exhibited extraordinary bravery by risking their own life to save or attempt to save the life of another.
• Nominee must be a New Hampshire resident, though the incident may have occurred elsewhere.
• Heroic action must have taken place during the 2026 calendar year.
