Goal
As Oklahomans, we are used to helping each other through tough times. The chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic is causing hardship that will transform our society, state, and local communities. In response to the COVID-19 Global Pandemic the Oklahoma Partnership for School Readiness (OPSR) has developed a project called the Oklahoma Standard that aims to reach out to families and providers to learn about their experiences, needs, and hopes for the future during these unprecedented times. The goals for the organizational partnerships are to create a mechanism to incorporate community voice to inform decision making about how to meet basic needs, do more of what is already working, and act on surprising trends.

With this funding and through this proposal, OPSR seeks to partner with local organizations to use a tool called SenseMaker to collect and analyze stories from community members in order to gain a rich understanding of what family resiliency looks like in each community. Oklahoma Standard Stories can be collected in person, virtually on the internet via phone, tablet, or computer, or through mailed paper copies from families and individuals over the age of 13 all across the state. All stories collected are confidential and anonymous. Participants are asked to give a story about how this pandemic is affecting them. Each story helps map a community’s strengths and needs and these maps can be used during Community Sensemaking sessions where community members make sense of patterns the stories form. Focusing on these patterns, the OPSR will be equipped with knowledge and how to better meet the needs of Oklahomans moving forward through policy decisions and local action.

Organizational Partners using the SenseMaker tool receive:
- $150 to attend a virtual training on how to use the SenseMaker tool
- $350 to collect a minimum of 35 stories from both families and providers by June 30, 2020
- A report of the data collected

 The focus of this project:
- Discover basic needs and access to services
- Equity
- Family stories
- Bright spots
- Disruptors to family trajectory
- Unheard voices

How stories will be used:
- Inform decision-making
- Narrative intervention
- For local SenseMaking Workshops (when appropriate and safe)
