Montgomery County Emergency Service, a non-profit, free-standing crisis psychiatric response center located on the grounds of Norristown State Hospital, is in the process of creating a strategic plan, a document that will provide direction and guidance to MCES, now and in the future. Your responses to the questions in this survey will help shape MCES's Strategic Plan and, in turn, the future of the organization. You are encouraged to think critically about your experience(s) with MCES and provide constructive feedback.
MCES, founded in 1974, currently operates the following services:
• Psychiatric EMS squad staffed with 10 Emergency Medical Technicians, cross-trained as psychiatric technicians.
• Crisis Intervention Specialist training program, which began training police officers in 1975 on psychiatric emergency response and verbal de-escalation techniques, as well as educating them about mental illness.
• 73-bed secure, inpatient hospital that is focused on trauma-sensitive, recovery-oriented assessment, treatment, stabilization, support and education.
• 8-bed Crisis Residential Program located on the grounds of Norristown State Hospital.
• Outpatient clinic providing forensic consultations, medication management, therapy, with a focus on needs of individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Forensic blended case management staff who engage with justice-involved individuals with mental illness, some of whom are homeless or are at risk of homelessness.
• 24/7/365 walk-in crisis center – serves approximately 2,000 individuals annually, staffed with a psychiatrist at all times.
• 24/7/365 crisis call center, which is part of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline – serves approximately 4,500 individuals annually.
