People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) can receive services and supports from the Massachusetts’ Department of Developmental Services (DDS). These services can be provided through traditional or self-directed models.

  • Most people receive services through a traditional model, which means a provider agency is responsible for their budget, support staff, and program choices.
  • Some people receive services through a self-directed model, which is called Self-Direction. Self-Direction lets individuals and their families have more control and responsibility for their services.
  • You can learn more about these service models on the DDS website here.

We want to learn about the experiences of people and their families who use Self-Direction.

Your feedback is important! We will use it to educate and inform leaders in our state about how Self-Direction is working well and how it can be improved. The information you share will be kept confidential. This means we will not use your name or identifying information when we share the survey results.

If you have questions or would like support in filling out this survey, please contact Kaitlin Stober, a Policy Research Associate with the Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council, at Kaitlin.stober@mass.gov.
