Introduction

The Municipality of Port Hope is currently developing a Community Climate Emergency Action Plan (CCEAP) in response to our declaration of a climate emergency on December 20, 2022 and to undertake leadership on climate action in our community. The CCEAP will focus specifically on mitigating the causes of climate change and preventing further contributions to global warming by identifying and scoping strategies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, improve energy efficiency, reduce waste, save on the cost of energy, and become more sustainable and climate resilient. As Port Hope’s population continues to grow, it will be important to understand how we can best manage future growth in a sustainable manner and mitigate potential additional impacts to our environmental, economic, social, and infrastructural systems.

In order to meet Canada’s GHG reduction targets and limit warming of the planet to 1.5°C, all levels of government must work together. Local governments have influence over emissions generated across our communities, which represent more than 50 percent of all emissions across Canada. Port Hope will be joining hundreds of local governments in Ontario and across the country, including collaborating with neighbouring communities to take action locally on climate change.

We Want to Hear From You!
Your input is valuable and it will ensure that we understand your perspectives and priorities for how the Municipality of Port Hope should move forward to take action on climate change, implementing initiatives that benefit our environment, economy, and the health of our community. The goal of this survey is to hear your feedback, insights, and thoughts in a structured format.

This survey will ask questions about actions that the community of Port Hope can take to become more energy efficient, implement low-carbon technologies, reduce waste, and adopt nature-based solutions, as well as basic demographic questions. Space at the end of the survey is provided for longer open-ended responses and comments. The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
