For more than a decade, the Division of Vector-Borne Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and its partners have been instrumental in developing and testing a wide array of tick control strategies and technologies. The blacklegged tick, Ixodes scapularis, transmits the pathogen that causes Lyme disease, the most common vector-borne disease in the United States, with over 36,400 confirmed and probable cases reported in 2016 alone. In the same year, Pennsylvania ranked first in the nation with respect to Lyme disease, reporting a total of 8,988 confirmed cases. This tick also transmits the disease agents that cause human granulocytic anaplasmosis and human babesiosis. Therefore, reducing the abundance of this tick is a public health priority. We would like your help in determining the types of tick control services offered by the pest management industry and would appreciate your time in completing this survey concerning your firm's involvement in managing this important disease vector.
