Survey: Priorities for Claremont's Future

Dear Neighbor,

While our campaign for City Council is over, we are as committed as ever to making progress on the issues that matter most to our community. Over the course of the campaign, we made over 5,000 phone calls to Claremont residents. What we learned on those calls informed the questions below, and it is our hope to communicate to City leadership the issues residents care most about as we move forward.

Your responses will be confidential, and the results of this survey will only be shared in the aggregate with our community and City leadership. Once we have the results, we will invite you to a meeting where we’ll share the themes and discuss next steps.

Creating a Climate Action Plan for Claremont (laying out actionable steps to become carbon neutral as a city by 2030)

Requiring electrification for new construction (requiring all new construction be powered entirely by electricity, not gas)

Shifting funds from our law enforcement budget (currently 52% of our City budget) to increase our investment in human services (currently 9% of our City budget)

Passing a Claremont sales tax increase (as one step toward addressing the city’s budget crisis)

Piloting an unarmed law enforcement response for welfare checks/non-violent police calls

Replacing the School Resource Officer (armed officer) from Claremont schools with additional mental health supports/ counselors for students

Expanding the City's rental assistance program for struggling renters through COVID-19

Regulating & securing transit occupancy tax from short-term rentals (such as Air B&B)
