Key Definitions:

Substance use disorder: Substance use disorder (SUD) is a complex condition in which there is uncontrolled use of a substance despite harmful consequences.

Recovery: The process of improved physical, psychological, and social well-being and health after having suffered from a substance use disorder.

Harm Reduction: Policies, programs and practices that aim to reduce the harms associated with the use of alcohol or other drugs.

NARCAN: A lifesaving medication that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose.

Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR): The use of medications to treat substance use disorders e.g., methadone or buprenorphine to treat opioid use disorder.
