To commemorate the centenary of the signing of the armistice that ended World War I, Noosa Council is holding a community event, Looking Forward to Peace, in Tewantin Memorial Park (opposite Tewantin RSL) on 11 November 2018 from 12noon-4pm. The event will follow on from Tewantin Noosa RSL’s annual Remembrance Day service and will be an afternoon of music and family entertainment in the park.
An important element of this event will be a re-enactment of the peace flotilla that took place in 1918 when local residents decorated their watercraft and traversed the Noosa River celebrating the signing of the Armistice and the cessation of World War I.
Council invites local water craft owners and operators to decorate their watercraft and join a flotilla on the Noosa River on Remembrance Day, gathering above Sheep Island, passing Tait’s Jetty around 12noon-12.15pm. It is envisaged that this will create a fantastic spectacle for those in the park and along the Noosa River foreshore.
The marshalling of the flotilla will be led and managed by QF5 Noosa Coast Guard. The planed route is to muster at the north-eastern corner of Sheep Island, just before the end of the Jetski Exclusion Zone. Traverse downstream and disband at location of your choice between the Boathouse Floating Restaurant and the Coastguard Marine Headquarters at Munna Point.
It is expected that flotilla participants will adorn their craft with bunting and Australiana-themed decorations. The first 20 approved EOI submissions will receive 10m Australian flag bunting for their vessel for FREE.
IMPORTANT: It is expected that participating watercraft owners have appropriate insurances, licences and registration and that all vessels are seaworthy and comply with the safety requirements of the Transport Operations (Marine Safety) Act 1994. All participants agree to abide by the marshalling directions of the Coast Guard Noosa. Completion of this form is confirmation that you have read and understand these conditions.
