Join us at the inaugural summer symposium for first-generation success at SSU!
This in-person day of presentations, workshops and roundtable discussions offers dedicated time for faculty ($250 stipend) and staff to explore who first-gen Vikings are and how we serve them, both inside and outside the classroom.
The August 18th, 2025 day will begin at 8:30am with a light breakfast, followed by a keynote speaker and workshop presentations. During these, participants will engage with staff and faculty colleagues to learn about first-generation student needs and strengths as we identify ways to strengthen our individual and community supports. A noon luncheon will follow, with poster displays on first-generation research and initiatives. The symposium will run until 3:00pm, with afternoon breakout sessions during which you will have the opportunity to explore best practices and provide your ideas and suggestions that could drive institutional readiness for our first-generation community. Help us become first-gen forward!
