Registration - CSH Family Seminars - Forming an Effective Local Community Housing Collaboration

The CSH Family Seminars are a chance to bring together some of the most effective advocates for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). There are 2 available seminars – [Oct 7 & 8 Northbrook] or [Oct 19 & 20 Springfield]. Both trainings will feature Jennifer Knapp and CSH and will include a Finale in Springfield on Nov 18. This Seminar focuses on family and other loved ones of persons with an IDD to help them learn about alternative service and housing options and creating the political push in their local communities to demand and create new and additional housing options in your local community. This training looks at public private partnerships, public financing, and the needs of the local community to make sure that a person with a developmental or intellectual disability has the option of living in their home community in regular housing by themselves or with a room-mate (with or without a disability) and that housing is available along with the required support services if and when it is needed.

The Family Seminars are designed for family Members and loved ones of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who want to understand the current system and barriers and want to create additional options for housing and support services to the current array of CILA and ICF-DD models. Most are interested in making sure that the proper preparations are made for the long term support for their family member. This may include partnering with others to get a house or working to create a public option available to your family member or others in the community. This involves education about the current system, new resources, and coalition building with others in the state and your local community.
