UC Administrators: Stop Delaying and Bargain a Fair AR Contract Now

On Sept. 28, 2019, it will be one year since a majority (over 3,000!) of Academic Researchers (ARs) filed a petition to form a union. Unfortunately, UC Administrators have engaged in unproductive labor relations practices rather than bargaining to advance UC’s research mission. They delayed recognizing the union for six months, held up the July 1, 2019 pay increases for ARs, and are slow to provide information relevant to bargaining a fair contract.

We, the undersigned majority of ARs, call on UC Administrators to expeditiously bargain a fair contract--including economic provisions that make up for any salary ARs should have received under the July 1 pay scale increase. A fair contract must:
  • Provide compensation reflecting ARs’ value to UC’s research,
  • Improve job security and paths for career advancement,
  • Create a more inclusive and equitable research workplace, and
  • Include a fair dispute-resolution process that avoids delay.
If UC Administrators fail to agree to a fair contract in a timely fashion we are prepared to take further action to ensure ARs win necessary improvements, enforce our rights, and help improve research at UC.
