The Faucet is an artificial intelligence-based medical device that will evaluate potential neurological emergencies in the ambulance.  Specifically, the Faucet will diagnose those patients who have acute ischemic stroke so that they can be immediately treated with intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) prior to arrival at the hospital emergency department.  The goal is to have the Faucet capable of autonomously diagnosing routine cases of acute ischemic stroke, and referring complex or uncertain cases to on-call neurologists for evaluation.
The Faucet will be endowed with natural language and computer vision so as to be able to directly speak with, and visualize the examination of, the patient in the ambulance.  The Faucet will employ the standard "history and physical" process used by physicians in their patient evaluations.

In order to diagnose acute ischemic stroke, it will be necessary to have the Faucet work in conjunction with a brain hemorrhage detector.  Portable CT scanners are already available for use in ambulances, and numerous more-portable technologies could be used to detect brain hemorrhage in the ambulance.

The Faucet will have an avatar of a physician who will interact with the patient (FIGURE) but it will clearly identify itself as an artificial intelligence when it begins the evaluation.
