Introduction

Thank you for your interest in being a Learning Coach for the National Leadership Development Programs.

Please complete the following application to be considered as a coach in FY20. All questions must be completed in order to be considered. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Your application must be received by September 23, 2019.

Being a coach is a collateral duty and does not supplant any of your existing job functions. Upon acceptance, applicants must receive permission from their supervisor to participate in the coaching program.

Purpose
The primary purpose of a Learning Coach is to be a catalyst for deep self-reflection on the part of the participants. Coach training, a component of the Learning Coach Program builds leadership coaching skills and replenishes the pool of trained, committed Learning Coaches.

Expectations
Learning Coach training is sponsored by the Work Environment and Performance Office (WEPO), Training and Employee Development Branch. The expectation of Forest Service Coaches is a commitment to serve for two years as a Learning Coach, up to four clients per year, and offering six to ten one-hour coaching sessions per client depending on the leadership development program. Coaches will be asked to attend two one-hour telephone support sessions for the program duration.

Applicants
The Learning Coach Program is designed for GS-13 and higher graded leaders who want to develop future leaders in the Forest Service. This is not mentoring. You will not be sharing your career lessons and providing advice. Instead, the primary role for the Coach is speaker-focused listening and asking thought-provoking questions to illicit problem solving from the participants.

Notification
Selected applicants will be notified no later than October 15, 2019. There is no tuition for the training. Travel is paid by your unit. Please submit your application only if you can commit to the full training and two years of coaching.

This application will be reviewed by a Leadership Development Coaching panel to determine if the applicant expresses the potential, level of interest, engagement with others, and interest in learning that is desired of a learning coach.
