DESCRIPTION OF THE RESEARCH: You are invited to participate in an online research study on Asian American lesbians’ experiences. You will be asked to answer demographic questions followed by questions relating to your experiences with racist, sexist, and heterosexist discrimination, your cultural values, your experiences with unsupportive social interactions, and your overall well-being. It is my hope that the findings of this study will inform clinical interventions, practice, policies, and future research regarding this unique population.

The principal investigator of this study is Melissa J. H. Corpus, MA, a doctoral student in Counseling Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University. This study is under the supervision of Dr. Marie L. Miville, an associate professor of Counseling Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University. RISKS AND BENEFITS: Potential risks are minimal. You may experience some discomfort while completing the questionnaire or you may be inconvenienced from taking time out of your day to complete the questionnaire. We believe that your participation will help guide future research on Asian American lesbians’ experiences and contribute to the improvement in training and educational programs, as well as organizational efforts to affirm Asian American lesbians.

PAYMENTS: There will be no payment for your participation in this study.

DATA STORAGE TO PROTECT CONFIDENTIALITY: All of your responses will be kept secure on the server and accessed only by the principal investigator using a password protected account. This online survey service strips away all identifying information from the participants’ responses. This will ensure that your confidentiality and anonymity will be protected. Once the data has been gathered, the information will be downloaded to a password protected computer only accessible by the principal investigator. When the data is not being analyzed, and after the data has been fully analyzed, it will be stored in a locked file cabinet. The data will be kept for no longer than 5 years and then it will be destroyed.

TIME INVOLVEMENT: Your participation in the study should take no more than 30-45 minutes to complete.

HOW WILL RESULTS BE USED: The results of the study will be used for the principal investigator’s dissertation, a requirement of the doctoral program. The results will also be presented at professional conferences and published in relevant professional journals.
