RFQ Call for Artists

Project Overview
Town Green District (TGD) seeks qualifications from mural artists and artists teams for a new public mural project in Downtown New Haven. The selected artist will create a site-specific mural that contributes to the vibrancy, identity, and visual character of the downtown district.

The Request for Qualifications (RFQ) is intended to identify artists with demonstrated experience in large-scale mural installation and public art projects. Concept proposals are not requested at this stage!

New Haven artists are strongly encouraged to apply!

Project Goals
The mural project aims to:

• Enhance the visual appeal of the downtown district
• Strengthen community identity and sense of place
• Create an engaging public art destination
• Support downtown revitalization and economic development efforts
• Contribute to a welcoming environment for residents and visitors

4.What is your experience or history with the Downtown New Haven area and community?
Describe your relationship with the community of New Haven. Artists who have knowledge about and experience in the New Haven area highly encouraged. If you have little history with Downtown New Haven, please explain how you will develop an understanding of the people and place, so you can connect and converse with the public as you create your art (partnership with a local or community organization, walk the area and meet business owners, meeting with local artists, etc).

5.Describe how you would approach this project - your creative process, management style, etc?
How would you go about transferring your design to the wall? Would you involve community volunteers (though not required!)? Describe relevant experience that would contribute to your success in completing this project (budget and schedule management, understanding exterior paint products, experience creating large compositions, etc).

August 28th 12am – Final Muralist Announced
October 1st – Mural painting begins
