3.Which Coach of the Year award are you nominating the coach for?

A Volunteer Coach of the Year nominee is a coach who does not receive payment in any form for their involvement in coaching. This award is based on the accomplishments of the coach between October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022.
  • Examples of how the coach provides developmentally appropriate skills and drills, and supports development of basic skills for young athletes through fun and engagement
  • Examples of how the coach has impacted or supported holistic athlete development (i.e. personal and social development, health and well-being and educational attainment)
  • Evidence of performance highlights, significant or historic achievements, win-loss record, awards received, etc.
  • Examples of creativity and innovation in continued support of athletes  (i.e. significant projects implemented, creative adaptations to coaching, digital transformation, social innovation, entrepreneurship, etc.)


A Developmental Coach of the Year nominee is coach of a youth club, school, or junior-level coach, or a coach directly responsible for coaching athletes to the junior and/or elite level. This award is based on the accomplishments from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022.
  • Examples of the impact the coach has had on widening access to the sport through coaching, community and parent engagement
  • Examples of how the coach provides developmentally appropriate skills and drills, and brings FUN to the sport
  • Examples of creativity and innovation in continued support of athletes (i.e. significant projects implemented, creative adaptations to coaching, digital transformation, social innovation, entrepreneurship, etc.)


The “Doc” Counsilman Award is for a coach that utilizes scientific techniques/equipment as an integral part of his/her coaching methods, or has created innovative ways to use sport science between October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022.
  • Examples of how the coach has utilized sport science to advance performance and/or well-being of athletes, developed new technology, or utilized an existing technology to further develop athletes.
