Van Buren County Hospital has received a grant through the state of Iowa that will allow us to train and equip more volunteer responders throughout the county. In order to be selected, volunteers will need to pass a background check and be willing to attend 15-20 hours of initial training. After attending the training, volunteers will be issued an equipment bag and their mobile number will be activated in the volunteer responder system. Volunteers will then be dispatched to medical emergencies based on their proximity to the call. Volunteers will provide initial medical support until ambulance staff can arrive.

Active volunteers will be expected to attend 4-8 hours of refresher training per year to keep their volunteer responder status.

If you are interested in potentially becoming a volunteer responder, please complete the following survey. At this point we have 30 training slots available. Training for volunteers will be prioritized based on their geographic location in the county and the number of hours a week they are available. Surveys will be collected through June, volunteer selection will happen in July, and training will take place in August and September.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering to help your community!
