Tread Lightly! California 2021 Educational Poster Program

This form is for California residents only to address OHV recreational issues only. Ordering closes November 14, 2021.

Thank you to California State Parks OHMVR Division for making the free program possible in 2021. Please note that we allow 50 free posters maximum per agency or organization while supplies last, if you'd like to request more posters please contact MindieW@treadlightly.org. Tread Lightly! reserves the right to deny poster requests.

All posters will be printed on high-quality, weather resistant material in size 20x24. If you have questions about posters, please contact jerrica@treadlightly.org. Thank you for helping share our message of responsible outdoor ethics.

Go over obstacles not around to avoid widening the trail

Cutting switchbacks affects the integrity of the trail and causes erosion. Please stay on the trail.

Use a Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) and know which routes are designated as open to off highway vehicles

Carry a trash bag and when possible pick up any litter you find

Inspect and wash your vehicle after your ride to reduce the spread of invasive species

Keep the noise and dust down

Share the trail

Leave gates as you find them

Maintain a safe speed

Ask first before accessing private property.

Always wear a personal floatation device (PFD)

Be courteous to other users on the trail

All users yield to horses.

Motorized and mechanized travel in Federally designated Wilderness Areas is prohibited.

Demolishing or vandalizing trail signs reduces available funds for trail improvements and maintenance.

Respect no wake zones.

Wake creates erosion. Do not ride or boat near shore.

Be prepared for spills. Carry a spill-kit.

Respect avalanche warnings.

When riding in potential avalanche areas, always wear a beacon.

Respect and protect rock art.

Check fire restrictions with your local land manager.

Bury or pack out human and pet waste.

Dispose of human and pet waste.

Bathroom facilities may not be available

Pack out toilet paper

Do not damage vegetation.

Keep vehicles on roads and parking areas.

Respect the rights of others: Don't kick up dust

Respect cultural and historical sites

Leave it better than you found it

Wear your helmet and other safety gear

Forest roads are not the desert, please manage your speed accordingly.

Understand the MVUM map before you ride. Riding UTVs off trail or around trails damages resources.

Delineating from the trail destroys resources.

UTVs can magnify damage to trails, please take turns slowly and do not kick up dirt on the side of the trail.

When the trail presents an obstacle, do not take the easiest path. Learn how to maneuver the obstacle, and stay on the trail.
