Karen and Leroy Zent and the Governor’s Office of Community Service are proud to present the Abby M. Zent Service Recognition. The Abby M. Zent Service Recognition encourages all citizens to engage in service to benefit others, and to continue serving throughout their lifetime.
Abby dedicated her life to service. She served two terms in AmeriCorps VISTA with the Prevention Resource Center, one as a member and one as a project leader. Abby then joined PRC staff for seven years working on antipoverty initiatives. Abby also provided support to the Senior Companion program as well as served on the Senior Corps Advisory Group for the Rocky Mountain Development Council. Additionally, she continued to volunteer with programs like Kiwanis, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, the Intermountain Festival of Trees and Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership. Her passion for serving her fellow Montanans knew no bounds, as was evident through her yearly trips to work on homes with Esperanza International in Tijuana, Mexico.
In that spirit, the Abby M. Zent Service Recognition distinguishes adults who served in AmeriCorps VISTA and who continue to make an impact on their communities and on those around them. Abby demonstrated a lifetime love of service, and was known to inspire others into serving alongside her to benefit those in need. Nominees for the Recognition should inspire others to serve, and have committed themselves to service throughout their lifetime.
Well suited nominees are purposeful, mission-driven individuals who have demonstrated sustained service to others, and inspire others to make service part of their lives, particularly in the areas of safe & affordable housing, youth leadership development, and arts & culture.
