11th District Education Survey

From the office of State Representative Steve Bergquist

Below are questions on multiple pieces of legislation under consideration this session to address problems in K-12 Education that have come about as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please take a moment to read a brief summary of each policy and let me know whether or not you support the measure.
1.Governor Inslee recently issued a proclamation requiring schools across the state to offer students the opportunity for in-person schooling at least two days a week.

Please note: Parents are free to choose to keep their student in remote schooling. The proclamation only requires schools give students the option to return to part-time in-person schooling.

Do you agree with this proclamation, or do you think local school districts should make the decisions around schools re-opening?
2.If you have a student, or if you were to have a student, in your family, how would you want your student to receive instruction in light of this proclamation?
3.House Bill 1476: Temporarily adjusts local levy formulas to stabilize school funding. Funding formulas are based on enrollment, which has decreased due to COVID-19. By using enrollment numbers from the 2019-2020 school year, school funding will hold steady through the pandemic, providing predictability and stability to students and districts.
4.House Bill 1121: Allows for flexibility in graduation requirements for Washington students impacted by COVID-19. Without many elements of the school year taking place, school districts need flexibility in order to determine on an individual basis if students meet graduation requirements.
