DPW-8/AePW-4 Interest Survey

Hybrid DPW/AePW Static Aeroelastic Deformation Working Group: Static fluid-structure interactions will be calculated and studied in detail. This group will be comprised of individuals in both DPW and AePW communities with significant collaboration leading up to the final workshop.

Hybrid DPW/AePW Unsteady Aerodynamics/Buffet Working Group: Unsteady calculations are the focus of this working group. More specifically, this group seeks to identify nature of pre- and post-buffet flight regimes with unsteady CFD analysis. Simulations will be performed on both experimentally-measured deformations and with coupled fluid/structure interactions. Members of the DPW and AePW communities will be involved.

DPW Source and Reduction of Scatter Working Group: This is similar to the traditional DPW approach for transonic flow on a static geometry. This group will concentrate on identifying the reasons for data scatter that was observed in DPW-7.

DPW Wind Tunnel Test Environment Working Group: This group seeks to understand the impact of the wind-tunnel environment when compared to free-air CFD, in particular both forces and moments as well as surface pressures.

AePW High Angle Working Group: This working group will study transonic aeroelastic flutter mechanisms of the Benchmark Supercritical Wing (BSCW). The BSCW is a pitch-and-plunge configuration that was also considered in the three previous AePW’s. Predictive computations of the BSCW flutter mechanism across an angle-of-attack-sweep will be studied in this working group, to be compared against future test data from the NASA Transonic Dynamics Tunnel.

AePW Large Deformation Working Group: This working group will consider highly-flexible subsonic wings. Here the emphasis is on large geometric structural nonlinearities, rather than aerodynamic complexity, and understanding the impact these nonlinearities have on model vibration, flutter mechanisms, limit cycle oscillations, and gust response.

AePW High Speed Working Group: This working group studies supersonic and hypersonic fluid structure interactions over flexible panel and plate structures. The RC-19 configuration is studied here (flexible panel on the ceiling of a supersonic wind tunnel, with or without shock impingement), as well as the HyMAX configuration (wedge-induced shock impingement of a flexible plate).
