20 MPH in Over

Cambridgeshire County Council have created an annual funding programme to install 20mph zones.

The schemes will be entirely funded by the county council.

The aim of 20mph restrictions is to:
1. Make streets safer by reducing speeds and enabling a more equitable use of the road space for all users (vulnerable road users sustainable transport businesses, and car users)
2. Encourage residents to walk or cycle by reducing speeds
3. Reduce noise and pollution by amending the way vehicles accelerate/decelerate.

Research has shown that every 1mph reduction in average urban speeds can result in a six percent fall in the number of casualties.
It has also been shown that you are seven times more likely to survive if you are hit by a car driving at 20mph, than if you are hit at 30mph.

If a child suddenly steps in front of a car, you are much less likely to seriously injure or kill them if you keep to a 20mph limit.

The first tranche of 20mph projects funded from this allocation have now been successfully delivered and a new round of applications can be made shortly.

Over Parish Council is therefore seeking views as to whether to apply and what an application would include if agreed.
1.Do you agree speeding is a problem in Over?
2.If we reduced the speed limit on some roads in Over to 20mph, would that help to address the speeding problem?
3.If we were to reduce the speed limit on some roads in Over, which ones would you select
4.Please share any additional comments / suggestions.
