Thank you for reaching out to the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), Community Care Licensing Division for guidance about emergency temporary child care for essential workers. California is committed to slowing and reducing the spread of COVID-19. On March 4, Governor Newsom issued the Proclamation of a State of Emergency to help the state prepare for broaden spread of COVID-19. To help this effort, a statewide Executive Order “Ordering Californians to Stay at Home” due to the presence of COVID-19 in the State took effect on March 19, 2020. Individuals exempted from this order are those critical in helping Californians during this time, including health care workers, public safety, sanitation, essential grocers, child care providers, and more.

The Department realizes it may be a challenge to find child care due to COVID-19 related program closures. We are here and available to support organizations with their emergency child care needs and to connect with community partners in the early learning and care profession so your staff can continue to provide critical services.

To get started we recommend assessing the child care needs for your organization or community which will help you complete the survey.
