Battleground Parks District

Project summary: The City of Greensboro will be applying for a Parks and Recreation Trust fund grant for Phase I of the Battleground Parks District development. The first phase of the project is for the hillside project at Country Park.

* 1. SKYWALK - Tree canopy walk or skywalk is a pedestrian walkway approximately one mile long and are popular all over the country as ecotourism attractions.

* 2. ZIP LINE - Like the one at SKYWILD at the Greensboro Science Center, it is a pulley suspended cable that will transport riders by gravity over the lake at Country Park and back.

* 3. PICNIC SHELTER - The picnic shelter will have a seating capacity for over 100 people and will be inclusive to person of all abilities.

* 4. PROMENADE & EVENT AREA - At the bottom of the hillside, along where the existing roadway runs, will be an open air area for events and food trucks.

* 5. DOG PARK - The existing dog park will be relocated closer to the Lawndale Drive side of the park for better access and to be closer to a new parking area being added.

* 6. PARKING AREA - A new parking area for 50+ vehicles off Lawndale Drive will be added to support the project and limit vehicular traffic into Country Park.

* 7. ACCESSIBLE WALKWAY - The fully accessible walkway for individuals of all abilities runs from the entry plaza at the carousel, traverses down the hillside to the lakeside at Country Park.

* 8.  RESTROOMS - A new restroom near the shelter and at the promenade and event area has been added.
