Legal Self-Asseement - Law for Non-Profits

This Legal Self-Assessment is a tool designed to help you uncover any issues in your operations, policy and governance that might put your organization at legal risk. The results will illuminate the areas your non-profit or charity needs to address to ensure it is doing all it can to prevent legal problems before they become a costly organizational crisis.

For the most comprehensive results, please have all the people in your organization who have oversight responsibility for legal liability complete it. This may mean your Executive Director and Board Chair, or it may mean your entire Board of Directors and Senior Staff. The results will be more helpful for you if multiple perspectives are provided.

The first section captures the fundamental information about your organization and its legal structure. Each of the following six sections focuses in on the main legal topics non-profits and charities in British Columbia need to be aware of. Employment law, Human Rights, Governance, Contracts (including privacy), Privacy and Canada Revenue Agency and Societies Act compliance.
