This home was originally located at 40 S Washington St and was moved to this location in 1893. It was built by F.B. Speckman, one of the community’s most prominent grain and pork dealers. On the Northwest corner of 1st St. and Walnut St. is the Auglaize County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Over the years, the site has been the home to many businesses, like the Sun Printing  Company, a plow company, a bridge company, and even two automobile manufacturers!

Since acquiring the building in 1956, the building has undergone many additions to meet the growing needs of people with developmental disabilities.  Circa 1995, Auglaize School became Advanced Beginnings Children’s (ABC) Center, with center-based Early Intervention (EI) services.  Over the years, the center-based model transitioned to a community-based model.   Currently the Auglaize County Board of Developmental Disabilities serves approximately 370 people and their families.  Preschool continues to be offered at the facility by the Auglaize County ESC.

The building recently underwent renovations. Near the south entrance is a sign of the companies that worked on the renovations.
