ANALYSIS OF IMPEDIMENTS TO FAIR HOUSING CHOICE FOR CITY OF KNOXVILLE AND KNOX COUNTY COMMUNITY SURVEY
General Information
Thank you for taking the Community Survey for the City of Knoxville and Knox County Analysis of Impediments (AI) to Fair Housing Choice. This study is a requirement of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for communities receiving federal funding for housing and community development programs and is embedded in the Fair Housing Act (FHA). This survey will help inform the City of Knoxville and Knox County if everyone has similar choices for housing regardless of their race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, religion, familial status, and disability, and if any impediments (barriers) to housing exist.
FAIR HOUSING ACT
Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (Fair Housing Act), as amended, prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings, and in other housing-related transactions, based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status (including children under the age of 18 living with parents or legal custodians, pregnant women, and people securing custody of children under the age of 18), and disability.
IMPEDIMENTS (definition):

2. Any actions, omissions, or decisions which have the effect of restricting housing choices or the availability of housing choices on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin.
