Single Family Home Applicant Checklist

As an incentive for meeting the checklist items below, your family may be considered for an AMHA Single Family Home! Our homes are located throughout Akron and surrounding communities. These properties are rented at income-based rates, and have excellent property management and maintenance providers. Eligibility guidelines include:

  • Resident of AMHA Public Housing*
  • You have maintained your lease agreement for at least 1 year
  • You have a history of on-time rent payments (Rent is due on the 1st of each month, and is considered late after the 8th of each month)
  • You have limited tenant-caused damages
  • You have provided prompt payment of any damage charges.
  • You have maintained satisfactory housekeeping inspections.
  • You have a positive relationship with neighbors.
  • You can pass a criminal background and police activity check.
  • You ave provided immediate reporting of income/ household changes.
  • You have continued employment income not less than $10,500/ year, or are currently a full time student (no less than 12 credit hours) approaching completion of a Post Secondary Degree/ Certificate or (no less than 9 credit hours) approaching completion of a Post Bachelor’s Degree with annual earnings not less than $7,000. Employment includes income from Retirement and Disability payments. (This requirement excludes disabled households: Heads, Co-Head, or Spouse receiving SS/SSI per month).

*Note: persons in the following housing programs are not eligible for the AMHA Single Family Home program: HCVP Participants, Scattered Sites Local Housing Authority (LHA) properties such as Hilltop House, Orchard Park/ Thornton Terrace, Akron 73 (Darrow/ Copley Rd.), Wilbeth Arlington Homes, Eastland Woods, and Edgewood Village residents.
