You are invited to participate in a research study under the direction of Dr. Monique Turner of the Department of Prevention and Community Health, School of Public Health and Health Services at George Washington University (GWU). Taking part in this research is entirely voluntary. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a public health communiction campaign amongst college student in the United States. You must be a male who is 18 years of age or older to participate in this study.

If you choose to take part in this study, you will be randomly chosen to view 3 print advertisements from one of the following public health campaigns: “Where do you stand?,” “Don’t be that guy,” or “Movember.” The campaigns viewed may involve such topics as rape, sexual harassment, etc. Afterwards you will be asked about your perceptions of the campaign. Your participation will require approximately 15-20 minutes. The total amount of time you will spend in connection with this study is around 15-20 minutes. You may refuse to answer any of the questions and you may stop your participation in this study at any time.

Possible risks or discomforts you could experience during this study include feeling some emotional discomfort answering the survey questions.

You may not personally benefit from your participation in the study, unless paid by the survey company. The benefits to science and humankind that might result from this study is a better understanding of the overall efficacy of the campaigns and the specific cognitive mechanisms that effectively influence attitude and behavior change among college students in the US.

Every effort will be made to keep your information confidential, however, this cannot be guaranteed. The analyst who will gather the survey results will not have your email address when you submit the survey online through the website link (no IP address will be recorded on the completed survey). If the results of this research study are reported in journals or at scientific meetings, the people who participated in this study will not be named or identified.
