1.General information
This survey is conducted by the NEVAT group (Neonatal European Vascular Access Team), a collaborative group of clinicians, researchers, and scientists with expertise in neonatal vascular access.
The aim of this survey is to explore current practices across Europe regarding neonatal central venous catheter insertion. The results will help better understand variations in practice and support future initiatives to improve neonatal vascular access care.
Terminology of central venous catheter used in the survey:
UVC (Umbilical vein catheter):
Inserted into the umbilical vein under direct visualization.
n-PICC (neonatal peripherally inserted central catheter) also known as ECC (Epicutaneo-cava catheter):
Inserted by direct, assisted puncture or ultrasound guided puncture of peripheral vein of the upper limb, lower limb, or scalp.
Inserted by direct, assisted puncture or ultrasound guided puncture of peripheral vein of the upper limb, lower limb, or scalp.
CICC (Centrally inserted central catheter):
inserted by ultrasound-guided venipuncture of deep veins of the supra-clavicular area (internal jugular vein, brachiocephalic vein, subclavian vein, deep tract of the external jugular vein) or of the infra-clavicular area (thoracic tract of the cephalic vein, thoracic tract of the axillary vein).
FICC (Femorally inserted central catheter):
Inserted by ultrasound-guided venipuncture of deep veins of the groin (common femoral vein).
This survey:
- does not collect patient data
- is voluntary and anonymous
- the name of the Neonatal Unit is collected for data management purposes and will not be displayed in the survey results.
