For the most outstanding new environmental campaign

This award celebrates a group which has initiated an outstanding new environmental campaign launched in the last 12 months and has demonstrated strong commitment and passion for the conservation of the NSW environment, honouring Marie Byles.
 
Marie Byles (1900-1979), the first female solicitor in New South Wales. Marie was a passionate bushwalker, conservationist, explorer, mountaineer and feminist. With her friend Paddy Pallin, she campaigned for the establishment of the Bouddi National Park Trust. In 1970 Marie bequeathed Ahimsa, her home and bushland property, to the National Trust – today it is a place for quiet enjoyment and meditation in keeping with Marie’s philosophy. Marie’s library was bequeathed to the University of Sydney’s Fisher Library.

This award is given annually to a group which has initiated an outstanding new environmental campaign and demonstrated strong commitment and passion for the conservation of the NSW environment.

Evaluation criteria:

The recipient group must have upheld one or more of the following principles of conservation:
1. The protection of the environment through advocating for the conservation of resources. 
2. The protection of the environment through creative campaigning. 
3. Protecting of communities from harmful pollution or inappropriate development.
4. Empowering and organisation individuals and groups to protect the environment.

Additional criteria for evaluation are:

1. Level (degree) of activity
2. Effectiveness in environmental awareness raising
3. Sustaining involvement until conclusion of campaign/s
4. Networking and co-operation with other conservation groups

Please note that current NCC employees and members of the Executive are not eligible to be nominated for this award. The award will be presented at the NSW Environment Awards on the evening of Saturday 20th October 2018.
