Before you Begin: Board Member Profile
The American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) seeks board members who internalize the core value of integrity and advocate for educational excellence. Further, board candidates must support the mission of the AACS to make the hair, beauty and wellness profession a premier career of choice.
Board members ensure the effectiveness, growth, and integrity of the Association’s objectives. As such, an emphasis is placed on seeking school/business owners and managers for participation on the Board of Directors.
AACS maintains a board representative of
- Member schools of varying sizes
- National and regional brands
- Industry partners from varying sectors
In evaluating candidates for board service this year, the following skill sets will be considered. Although candidates are not expected to meet all criteria, these criteria, along with consideration of board diversity, are to be given weight when identifying candidates:
- Government relations involvement/experience
- Teacher focus
- Industry reach/influence
- Financial literacy
- Accountability
- Historical perspective on AACS/the industry
- Sales & fundraising experience
- Licensed beauty professional
The following will also be considered in evaluating candidates to fill open board positions:
- School/Business owner or Senior Manager
