Introduction

The following survey is designed to inform workload recommendations for attorneys providing mandated representation (public defense) in New York family courts. It is one step in a three-part process designed to inform workload recommendations that will be made by the NYS Office of Indigent Legal Services (ILS), pursuant to ILS’s obligation under Executive Law § 832 and in furtherance of recommendations made in the February 2019 Interim Report to Chief Judge Janet DiFiore by the Office of Court Administration’s Commission on Parental Legal Representation (the DiFiore Commission).  This voluntary and anonymous survey asks for input on the sufficiency of time to complete tasks necessary for each proceeding type. Welfare Research, Inc. (WRI) has been contracted by ILS to administer the survey, and will only be reporting aggregate results to ILS.

Please complete the survey by October 27th.  Participants who complete the survey will be offered the chance to be entered in a random drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card (see link to enter in the last question of the survey).

For time entry questions, each petition type is listed.  If you do not handle a particular petition type on a regular basis, please skip to the next question.

If you encounter any problems with the survey, contact workloadstudy@welfareresearch.org.  Thank you in advance for sharing your feedback on this important topic.
