CONSENT FORM

You are invited to take part in a research study about understanding the experiences of how young married couples describe their experiences with their partner’s responsiveness while they are in this unique life stage. This form is part of a process called “informed consent” to allow you to understand this study before deciding whether to take part.

This study seeks 12 volunteers who are:
  • Currently aged 18 to 20
  • Married and currently living with your spouse
  • Reside in the United States
  • Only one spouse per couple can participate
This study is being conducted by a researcher named Terrell Pugh, who is a doctoral student at Walden University.

Study Purpose:

The purpose of this study is to explore late adolescent married couples’ lived experience of partner responsiveness within the transitional period of late adolescence.

Procedures:

This study would involve you completing the following steps:
  • Eligibility Screening: Fill out a short online survey to give your consent and check if you qualify. Time: 5–10 minutes.
  • Zoom Interview and Wrap-Up: Join a Zoom interview that lasts up to 1 hour, including a quick review at the end to confirm your answers and make sure everything was understood correctly.
Here are some sample questions:

  1. How does your partner's support and understanding affect you as you grow into an adult?
  2. Share with me a time when you and your spouse helped each other during a major change in your life. Can you tell me about the things you both did to help each other?
  3. Share with me how you and your spouse dealt with a major life change. Tell me about the experience of having your spouse there with you.

Voluntary Nature of the Study:

Research should only be done with those who freely volunteer. So everyone involved will respect your decision to join or not. If you decide to join the study now, you can still change your mind later. You may stop at any time. Please note that not all volunteers will be contacted to take part.

Risks and Benefits of Being in the Study:

Being in this study could involve some risk of the minor discomforts that can be encountered in daily life such as sharing sensitive information. With the protections in place, this study would pose minimal risk to your wellbeing. If distress arises, support can be obtained via www.FindTreatment.gov or 1-800-662-HELP (4357).

This study offers no direct benefits to individual volunteers. The aim of this study is to benefit society by offering insights to help inform interventions that promote healthier relationships and individual development among late adolescent married individuals. Results of this study will be automatically published online in Scholarworks (a publication of Walden University doctoral research) which can be viewed free of charge.

Payment:

Participation is voluntary and no compensation will be provided.
