Call for Art Submissions - Now until - Monday, January 30 @ 4pm

The Township of Oro-Medonte invites all interested artists to submit an application to participate in an expansion of the Art-Tree (review website for ideas) art project. 
An ongoing marketing campaign will promote beautiful Oro-Medonte as a great place to Live-Work-Play connecting to the larger Public Art Pieces currently on display in Craighurst. It will encourage visitors and residents to view the art, DINE.SHOP & EXPLORE local businesses in Oro-Medonte.
 
Each tree must incorporate images that reflect Oro-Medonte and fit into one of the following categories:
  • History
  • Culture
  • Natural Landscape
  • Four-seasons
  • Recreation
Art Tree Examples
There are two opportunities for artist participation.
Option 1: Art Trees - Metal Sculptures
The new trees will be on a smaller scale, metal sculptures are approximately 2 feet high, 3-D, one sided providing an art space of approximately 16" diameter on the largest piece, plus two smaller pieces. Artists will be selected through a juried process, to transform the metal tree sculptures into public art. The tree will either be displayed on a stand or on a wall in a secure/safe business location or public place. Each location must meet certain criteria, final selection will be by the Township. The Trees of Oro-Medonte once installed will be unveiled, each artist will receive credit for their work, directly on the art, website and marketing materials.  
Artist Honorarium: Completion of one Metal Tree $500 
  
Option 2: Outdoor Trees - Alupanel
Provide a print or reproduced artwork, a photo that represents Oro-Medonte. Giving the Township rights to use the image, it will be printed on alupanel and on display outdoors at various public locations. 
Artist Honorarium: $75 - $150 per selected submission, based on what is supplied.

Further Details: Artist recognition will be provided with each art piece. All final pieces will be owned by the Township of Oro-Medonte, however they will be on display at local businesses and public locations, the pieces will be used to promote the region including photo/video, highlighting the arts and culture sector in the area. The design must be the artist's original concept and not infringe on any copyright. 
*All submissions will be juried by an evaluation committee.

Preference will be given to  artists who are within a 30 minute drive from the Township office (Line 7) in Oro-Medonte due to travel time, however other locations can be accommodated if pickup/drop off of tree can be arranged by artist.

Requirements: Once Jury Selection is complete.
OPTION 1: Artists are required to provide their own art supplies and are responsible for the entire structure, including priming and for the completed work including a topcoat/varnish. (Re-application of coating is artists responsibility & may be required.) Materials must be durable, lasting a minimum of 5 years, give this consideration with your design. 
OPTION 2: A high resolution digital image.

- Contracts signed and prepare to start artwork
- Delivery/Pick up of sculpture to be arranged week of February 13 or before
- Artwork must be complete by March 17, honorarium to follow once invoice received (some photo/video may take place in between)
- Latest pick up from artists and delivery to businesses week of March 20
- *Possible kick off event to follow end of March into April

*It is requested that artists attend the kick off event date/location TBD, more details will be confirmed at the time of artist selection and contract signed.

OPTION 1: Include your name on the submission, it is preferred that designs are shown in colour, they can be a sketch or painted, explain the materials you propose to use (combine different materials and media to enhance the sculptures such as three dimensional elements) however please give consideration to how it could potentially be vandalized. There shouldn't be any sharp edges or opportunity for any type of injury.
Dimensional restrictions: any added elements may not go beyond a couple of inches in any direction beyond the perimeter, please also give consideration for the transportation required to get to the final destination and how well this may transport.

The undersigned further licenses The Township of Oro-Medonte and partner organizations the right to use the artist’s name, biography and likeness in any medium for the purposes of promoting the Township of Oro-Medonte and our partners. Partners could include but aren't limited to various levels of Government (based on funding), Orillia & Lake Country Tourism, Oro-Medonte Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, Tourism Simcoe County, RTO7(BruceGreySimcoe). The media, businesses and the public will also be taking photos and video to promote the artwork. The sculptures are the property of the Township of Oro-Medonte.
