SAMHSA CCBHC Certification requirements include integration of mental health and substance use services and primary care screening and monitoring. Many of the services and evidence-based practices include medical components requiring evaluations, diagnosis and treatments that must be performed or involve physicians or APRNs.
 
The CCBHC Medical Director role includes multidimensonal leadership and oversight of administrative, operations, education and clinical action. The role provides guidance and direction regarding behavioral health clinical service delivery, ensure the quality
of the medical component of care, and provide guidance to ensure that the coordination of behavioral health and primary care are facilitated.

Launching in April 2023, this series will convene CCBHC Medical Directors interested in receiving guidance and education on the role of CCBHC Medical Directors to effectively support the strategic framework and implementation of the CCHBC model to enhance the integration and quality of care. This ECHO series is designed to provide brief case presentations, the opportunity for Medical Directors to engage collaboratively with other CCBHC executives on integration and medical aspects of care, and to participate in peer-to-peer learning discussions with other medical director experts.
