Survey
If you have attended FAACT's Teen Retreat in the past, you know what the weekend is all about. For those who have not attended, below is a summary of what FAACT's Teen Retreat entailed. We've had MANY families ask us to bring this program back (the last one was in 2023), so we are conducting this survey to gauge the interest. We'd love to hear from you!
BACKGROUND ABOUT TEEN RETREAT - IN OAK BROOK, ILLINOIS:
FAACT's Teen Retreat weekend is all about tweens, teens, and college students, their siblings, and their parents/caregivers - managing food allergies, asthma, eosinophilic disorders (EoE), Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES), mast cell diseases, and Celiac disease. The weekend offers an informative program full of fun activities. Teens will learn about managing their food allergies and, more importantly, spend time with peers who have food allergies (and siblings who do not). Siblings are also affected when a family member has food allergies. Our Teen Retreat is a safe place for them to discuss their concerns with a group who not only understands but can share their own experiences, advice, and solutions. There are NO slide presentations for the teen sessions - they are all open discussion and interactive sessions with leading experts and leaders. The parent/caregiver sessions do have slide presentations with our experts. :-)
Teens/tweens and siblings MUST BE between the ages of 11 and 18 and college students between the ages of 18-23 to attend the Teen Retreat. Attendees must be ages 11+ to attend. It is important for college-aged students/young adults to be included as well – they act as leaders and mentors during sessions to the younger teens and also have the opportunity to connect with their peers and discuss managing food allergies. Sessions will take place on Saturday and Sunday morning. All teens will be together for some sessions for mentoring aspects, and then there will be breakout sessions by grades (Middle School and High School).
Parents/Caregivers are in session on Saturday and Sunday learning from healthcare professionals, parent/caregiver advocates, teen advocates, and they have time to bond and share stories during both evenings, as well, while the teens are participating in their social events.
There will be an Allergy-Friendly Company Expo set up all weekend. The Expo features FAACT's partners who distribute literature, materials, allergy-friendly food samples, and more.
