Dear Student,

At ASM we believe that well informed students make the right choices for themselves and that students should have a voice in the course selection process based on their career goals. This survey was designed specifically to give you a venue to explore your curricular options in science in regards to your life-long career goals.

Please read the information below very carefully and then answer the questions below.

* 7. This question is about AP offerings. For the school year 2016-17 we would like to offer the following APs in our Upper School Science Program: AP Biology and AP Physics.

Depending on student interest, we are willing to offer at least two options, for the year 2016-17, at two different grade levels with the option for AP Physics C to be taken during a student's senior year (2017-18). We are also contemplating the addition of AP Environmental Science for the school year 2017-18. You may check all of the options below that apply to you.

I want to take AP Physics 1 when I am in GRADE 11. (Information on the course: AP Physics 1 is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course. Students cultivate their understanding of Physics through inquiry-based investigations as they explore topics such as Newtonian mechanics (including rotational motion); work, energy, and power; mechanical waves and sound; and introductory, simple circuits).

I want to take AP Physics 1 when I am in GRADE 12. (Information on the course: AP Physics 1 is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course. Students cultivate their understanding of Physics through inquiry-based investigations as they explore topics such as Newtonian mechanics (including rotational motion); work, energy, and power; mechanical waves and sound; and introductory, simple circuits).

I want to take AP Biology in GRADE 12. (AP Biology is an introductory college-level biology course. Students
cultivate their understanding of biology through inquiry-based investigations as they explore the following topics: evolution, cellular processes — energy and communication, genetics, information transfer, ecology, and interactions).

I would take the AP Environmental Science course if offered in GRADE 12. (The goal of the AP Environmental Science course is to provide students with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and human-made, to evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, and to examine alternative solutions for resolving or preventing them).

I would like to take AP Physics C in GRADE 12 after taking AP Physics 1 in GRADE 11 (AP Physics C: Mechanics is equivalent to a one-semester, calculus based,college-level physics course, especially appropriate for students planning to specialize or major in physical science or engineering. The course explores topics such as kinematics; Newton’s laws of motion; work, energy and power; systems of particles and linear momentum; circular motion and rotation; and oscillations and gravitation. Introductory differential and integral calculus is used throughout the course).
