Introduction

We are glad you are interested in volunteering to support our alma mater by serving as an MUW Alumni Association committee member. Below you will find descriptions of each committee followed by action items each committee is tasked with each year.

1. Nominations and Elections Committee
This committee shall identify and prepare annual nominations for at least one candidate for the office of President-elect and vacant Board Director positions from among voting members of the Association.
Task: Compile the candidate information package for vacant Alumni Association Board of Directors and President-elect positions.

2. Bylaws Committee
This committee shall review the governing documents of the association and recommend changes when necessary to the Alumni Association President and Board of Directors.
Task: Review governing documents for additions and removals as directed by the President of the Alumni Association and agreed upon by the committee.

3. Recruitment and Retention Committee
This committee shall support the university in coordination with the vice president for academic affairs in the university’s recruitment and retention of students and faculty.
Task: Facilitate the selection of the MUWAA alumni awards, MUWAA student scholarships, and MUWAA faculty grants. This committee will also assist with the organization of the New Faculty Luncheon, partner with Student Life to assist with 100th Night preparations, and keep a line of communication open to the Alumni Recruiting Team.

4. Chapters and Constituency Groups Committee
This committee shall work to increase active participation in the Alumni Association and shall develop and educate alumni chapters and constituent groups in coordination with the university’s director of alumni relations.
Task: Support the interest, growth, and sustainability of new and existing alumni chapters and constituency groups through committee workshops and updated documents for reporting.

5. Special Events Committee
This committee shall coordinate the participation of Alumni Association members in support of formal MUWAA special activities planned in partnership with the university’s director of alumni relations.
Task: Plan and execute the annual Magnolia Mingle at Homecoming and virtual Long Blue Line Auction in September.

6. Finance Committee
This committee shall develop and manage a budget for the Alumni Association and ensure that the Alumni Association remains in compliance with the provisions in the affiliation agreement related to quarterly financials.
Task: Approve and report quarterly budget changes in coordination with the foundation accountant.
7. Public Relations Committee
This committee shall, in coordination with the university’s director of alumni relations, create, produce, and disseminate information on behalf of the Alumni Association and work to project a positive image of the university, the Alumni Association, and former students.
Task: Draft social media campaigns and press releases for annual alumni awards, faculty recognitions and Alumni Association sponsored events.

8. Membership Recruitment Committee
This committee shall focus on growing the membership through continued education about the Association and its programming with specific focus on reengaging current alumni and recruiting new members.
Task: Present and execute annual new membership drive, coordinate the alumni vs student Homecoming event, and assist distributing new graduate gifts at university commencement.

9. Mentoring Committee
This committee shall work to strengthen the relationship with current students through campus collaborations while preparing seniors for active membership in the Alumni Association upon their graduation.
Task: Plan and host the annual B.L.U.E. networking event and Spring Fling mentoring event for juniors and seniors during Homecoming.

10. One MUW Committee
This committee shall work to cultivate stronger relationships with alumni of all lived experiences to enjoy a collective environment of representation, support, and engagement while cultivating intentional opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Task: Develop and host professional development workshops for students, alumni, and the Alumni Association Board of Directors on topics of experience, belonging and access.

11. Digital Marketing Committee
This committee shall, in coordination with the university’s director of alumni relations and in alignment with the Alumni Association Public Relations Committee, create, produce, and disseminate digital and social media information on behalf of the Alumni Association and in accordance with MUWAA brand standards that works to project a positive image of the university, the Alumni Association, and former students.
Task: Partner with the Alumni Association Board of Directors/Committee Chairs to develop a content calendar throughout the year including Alumni Association announcements, events, awards, and accolades.
