Advance Diversity Services and Georges River Council are inviting Expressions of Interest to participate in our upcoming Refugee Week Multicultural Poetry Slam - Finding Freedom through Poetry.

We are seeking Poets (emerging or established - no prior poetry reciting experience required) to participate in our Refugee Week event on Thursday 20 June 2024 at Hurstville Library from 5 pm - 7:30 pm. Poets are invited to recite two entries up to 5 minutes each. Poems may be original or existing work.

Poets will have the opportunity to recite their poems in-language to a live audience.

Poems should speak to the theme of Refugee Week 2024 “Finding Freedom”, with a particular focus on family. The aim is to explore the transformative power of familial bonds as well as chosen bonds in the face of adversity and emphasise the crucial role families play in providing solace, support, and a sense of belonging to those forced to flee their homeland.

All Poets will be gifted a $50 gift card for their performance. For more information about the event, please see the Georges River Council Website.
