Northumberland County Council is testing the feasibility of establishing a Challenger Learning Centre in the County. This survey has been distributed across Northumberland schools to understand your views on the need for such a facility and to gauge potential demand for a Challenger Centre in Northumberland.

About the Challenger Centre

The Challenger Centre for Space Science Education was established following the crash of the Challenger spacecraft in 1986, with crew members’ families wanting to continue the educational mission and outreach of the space programme. The Challenger Learning Centre experience sees students work together on realistic, simulated space missions, using inquiry-based activities to develop teamwork, communication, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The content of core Challenger Centre missions is vetted by NASA subject experts.

A video outlining the experience can be viewed here.

With the UK Challenger Learning Centre in Leicester coming to the end of its operational life, there is an opportunity to deliver a new and improved Challenger Learning Centre in Northumberland.
