Port Augusta City Council is inviting the community to have their say on proposed safety improvements near Flinders Children’s Centre and Tji Tji Wiltja Preschool.
Flinders Children’s Centre and Tji Tji Wiltja Preschool have requested a school crossing on Tassie Street citing concerns about pedestrian safety, limited visibility and traffic awareness.
A Council assessment found that pedestrian movements did not meet the requirements for a standard school (Koala) crossing. However, visibility issues near the school entrance were identified, highlighting the need for additional measures to improve driver awareness and pedestrian safety. The assessment recommended advanced warning signage as a minimum, with a school (Emu) crossing also being considered as an option to improve safety for children and families.
Council is seeking feedback before a detailed design is prepared and presented for consideration.
