.There has been a lot of action in the last couple of years in the Legislature regarding different approaches to climate and environmental policy. Do you believe that environmental and climate policy should be…
.There have been proposals this session for more investment and development into renewable energy sources (including HB 1619 which incentivizes gas companies to build facilities that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions) in pursuit of reducing GHG emissions by 95% by 2050. Do you support further funding towards renewable energy sources in our state?
.In 2021, we passed our Climate Commitment Act, which was developed to pursue a future of fewer greenhouse gas emissions in Washington. To do so, this year SB 5562 and HB 1589 have been introduced, which plans for a transition to clean energy in Washington. Do you believe that fossil fuel companies should pay a carbon tax and Washington should regulate CO2 as a pollutant?
.Single use plastics have proven challenging to address in the grand scheme of environmental policy. HB 1131 aims to improve Washington’s solid waste management outcomes by applying regulations to producers of certain paper products and packaging. Do you support regulations or bans on plastics in Washington?
.Other states have passed similar legislation to reduce plastic waste, like Oregon’s BottleDrop program. HB 1131 would implement a similar system in Washington, allowing people to receive points for participating store credit or even cash for recycling bottles. Would you support a bottle deposit system?
