Overview

Description
As part of the Belonging Begins With Us campaign, Welcoming America is launching a Community of Practice (CoP) focused on fostering inclusion and belonging within formal and less formal committees, boards, advisory councils, and commissions.

This CoP will provide a space for Welcoming Network members and other organizations to cultivate ideas and reflect on challenges related to improving immigrant inclusion within committees, including both strategies to build diversity and those to strengthen inclusion once a diverse committee is formed.

Benefits
Unlike other programs where an expert presents and participants listen, the unique format of a community of practice prioritizes the sharing of group experiences. Thus, each monthly call provides an opportunity for participants to learn from each other and share ideas. You’ll get direct feedback from peers that will help you identify opportunities within the board or committee you’re working with.

Expect to
- Expand your network of professionals who are doing similar work.
- Have the opportunity to share ideas and receive feedback.
- Receive relevant resources that address specific challenges your board/committee is having.
- Contribute to the growing field of belonging.
- Be heard and valued.

Eligibility
CoP participants should be part of a board/committee or responsible for recruitment/oversight of a board that is (or could become) composed of immigrants and U.S.-born residents working together on a shared goal, such as a neighborhood improvement project, COVID-19 economic recovery, etc.

To join, your institution must either:
- Be a current member of the Welcoming Network
- OR meet Welcoming Network requirements to become a member

Please direct any questions about eligibility to Jordyne@welcomingamerica.org

Time Commitment
The first meeting will take place in early May. Monthly meetings will last 1 ½ hours and run from May-December 2021. We ask that participants commit to attending as many as possible, but we understand that you may not be able to attend all 9 sessions. In addition to monthly meetings, we will share readings and resources which you may explore on your own time.
