Introduction

The Lower Mississippi River Foundation (LMRF) is working on a 5-10 year strategic plan and financial sustainability plan. In preparation for this work, we were hoping to engage some of  LMRF’s external partners to learn more about your needs and challenges, how you work with the LMRF and what the LMRF could be doing that would better serve your needs.

You may know LMRF or you may know the Quapaw Canoe Company (QCC). They are not the same organization, but they work together in many ways. QCC is a for-profit LLC focused on providing access to the wild places of the Lower Mississippi River by canoes, kayaks or paddleboards. The LMRF is a non-proft corporation that oversees specific projects and programming oriented toward education, access, and enhanced environmental quality of the Lower Mississippi River.  Many of LMRF’s programs involve outdoor education for regional youth, outdoor survival training for disadvantaged youth, access for recreational paddlers, ethical water use and stewardship, ethical outdoor recreation, and more.  Examples include the Mighty Quapaw Apprenticeship Program, Save Buck Island Campaign, the Rivergator: Paddler’s Guide to the Lower Mississippi River, and Friends of the Sunflower River.  In many of LMRF’s projects and programs, Quapaw is a contractor.
