Each year, in accordance with Board of Education policy, the school district reviews attendance area trends and determines if adjustments need to be considered. Columbia Public Schools in currently building a new elementary school in east Columbia.  The school will open in the fall of 2018. 
 
When determining changes, it is important for the community and parents of students enrolled at the impacted schools to play a role in the process. A committee has been established to determine the attendance area for the new elementary school. The committee includes parent representatives from each impacted school as well as district administrators. The committee's role is to use guiding principles established by the Board of Education and enrollment data to evaluate attendance area options. The district has also engaged a company that specializes in attendance area data analysis to help with the process and provide the ability to automate the development of scenarios for consideration.
